English has never been my cup of tea, but English 1100 definitely opened my eyes. I was never the type who was simply able to write an essay. It has been my main struggle throughout my entire educational career. Every time I'm given guidelines on how to write an essay, I lose my mind and struggle to even decide where to start because I'm not sure what approach to take. For example right now, I'm struggling to write this reflective essay and I'm not really sure where to start. This essay should reflect on the things I learned from my English class this semester and I hope to touch on all of these points. This course gave me a lot of advice on what approaches to take when writing an essay. Since my first writing project, I believe I have become much stronger at essay writing. Before this semester, I had never understood exactly what a reflective essay was. Now I do, it's simply about writing down what an individual thinks and observes from their experiences. Having a better understanding of reflective essays has given me the opportunity to reflect on what I have learned or experienced. I demonstrated this by writing the different journals during this English lesson. In this course we have read many great examples of reflective writing, “What is a Homosexual?” by Andrew Sullivan? is a great example of a reflective essay. I think reflective essays are a great way for others to show how they feel about something they've experienced. Throughout high school, my English classes were based more on persuasive essays, rather than the variety of writing I learned in English 1100. It seems like in high school, all the teachers cared about was students convincing people with our writings, in which... in the middle of the paper... right from the beginning. Between work, school, and just settling here in Ohio, I've found that planning my days in advance helps me know what's on the schedule and helps me schedule homework and study at free times. This course showed me how smart I am, and I would never have known it if it weren't for English 1100. To future students, I would say that English 1100 is a brutal, but very useful course. It requires time and dedication to produce excellent work. I did four writing projects for this course, and each one taught me something new about English as a whole. This course has proven that I am strong enough to overcome any assignment given to me. Knowing that I have learned so much from this course, I believe that any student who knows English 1100, will have greater strength in the business world.
