A third major political party is needed in the United States today. The two current main parties are inadequate due to the lack of popular representation and the recurring deadlocks that occur when a controversial decision has to be made. Adding a third major party would help with voting decisions, representation of the people, and governance in general. Given that the two current parties already hold a center-left or center-right political platform, a third party would need to adopt a moderate position. A moderate third party would also be idyllic because since the 2008 presidential election, more and more voters are becoming independents instead of identifying as Democrats or Republicans (chart on A530). A third political party's platform would have moderate views on "hot" issues. Furthermore, if a third party were another choice in a presidential race, moderate voters, who would feel unrepresented by the two opposing parties, would want to vote since the more relevant party would have a better chance of winning a presidential seat and representing the party more important....
