Topic > Kellie and Derek's QuickStep - 735

Dancing with the Stars began its 16th season on March 18 with a stellar new cast of celebrity partners and just like the last 15 seasons there can only be one winner. Week after week the partner teams were excluded from the competition. Fresh-faced country singer, Kellie Pickler, and her professional partner, Derek Hough, danced their way to the semi-finals with a dance quality, not quantity, approach. All with the chance of winning the coveted mirror sphere trophy. Recorded live on Beverly Blvd, Hollywood, California, the tenth week show, before the final winner was announced, aired on May 20, 2013. The final challenge was the judges' choice of dance for each of the remaining contestants. Among the remaining teams, the couple Kellie and Derek amazed the judges with their choice of fast pace on the song "Peppy and George" - Ludovic Bource. This performance was successful by how the partners embodied the theme, costumes and lighting, and how the overall piece was best performed according to the competition guidelines for a fast pace. The main theme of the Roaring 20's was consistently played throughout the dance. Kellie and Derek's rendition of a high-energy, fast-paced, roaring '20s number was complete with a black and white intro and a live jazz band providing the music. Physically and technically demanding fast step is defined as “a lively step or combination of steps in ballroom dancing” (fast step). Judge Len Goodmen gave the duo some advice before performing live on how to properly perform a quick step, "you are a pair of magnets and nothing will tear you apart" (Dancingwts09). As it refers to the connection of the body necessary to produce...... middle of paper... performance ep. The simplistic technical aspects, which shone as the main focus, enhanced the atmosphere and embodiment of the characters portrayed. Technically and physically the precision and quick movements behind each count sold the performance. “They couldn't have put in more content if I had tried” (Dancingwts09) judge Bruno Tonioli. Finally demonstrating the bond that was formed and the quality rather than quantity of the dancing, and the support of the nation, Kellie and Derek were able to name themselves as champions of the sixteenth season of Dancing with the Stars.
