Throughout history women have suffered from inequalities that differentiate them from men, including the right to vote among many others. When New Zealand gave women the right to vote, it empowered women in other countries to fight for the vote, while Europe and the United States fought for women's rights, changing them forever. Many suffrage groups formed in the United States and Europe to fight for women's rights. Two major events, Seneca Falls, and a parade led by Alice Paul, created a turning point for women's rights. Already in the Paleolithic, women had different rights than men. Some of the injustices women faced included not having the right to vote, a lack of voice in the law, and the fact that women could not hold most occupations. Women were not even allowed to receive a university education. Once married, a woman had no rights or, if she divorced, could not legally have custody of her children. Many religious people believed that God created women to be inferior. It was considered a natural law that men were above women. When women began the fight for more rights, it began as a political and legal struggle and eventually transformed into a social and economic struggle as well. Many women who began the struggle died before they could see the fruits of their labor, including Susan Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Lucy Stone. In the United States, Abigail Adams and Mercy Otis Warren fought for the inclusion of women's emancipation in the Constitution. During the late 18th century, men in the United States had many rights while women had very few. Furthermore, women could not maintain their wages. A woman argued that her right to own property upon her husband's death was dead. New Zealand was the first country where gay...... middle of paper......women, some consider it "reverse discrimination" because they are filling jobs with people no longer suitable for work but who follow the law of having a diverse community. In the past and present there has been discrimination between men and women based on many different rights, including the right to vote. There were many suffrage groups, but the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies, the Women's Suffrage and Political Union, and the National American Women's Suffrage Association did the most to transform women's suffrage. Two major events occurred in the United States that were turning points for global suffrage, not only in the United States but in other countries as well. New Zealand was the first country to grant women the same rights as men, motivating women around the world to start fighting, which then changed forever starting with Europe and the United States..
