Since everyone is different, so is their opinion on how they want to live their life. By Our Own Bootstraps states: “[We] vary greatly in abilities, motivation, interests and preferences. Some of us are driven to move forward. Some of us are just lazy. Some of us are willing to work hard to afford a lifestyle rich in material goods. Some of us work hard enough to provide a roof over our heads, food, clothing, and some services” (80). The statement claims that everyone thinks differently and has their own goal to achieve in life. This means that not everyone wants to achieve the American dream. People who want to live the dream have a national spirit. They believe their country can help them live a better life. These hopeful people help the American dream flourish. The dream is not dead because patriotism is still alive. Dalmia agrees: “The American spirit, ultimately, is the primary reason to believe that the American dream is and will remain alive” (86). With the American spirit that Shikha Dalmia talks about, the American dream still exists. It will continue to do so because it has become part of American culture. Martin C. Jischke says, “Wherever you come from in the world… you've all heard of the American dream. It is part of American culture and heritage. It is the essence of what we, as Americans, believe about ourselves and our nation” (75). Affirms the
