During early childhood some aspects of the child's ability to learn and inhibit language are very crucial. Having a language disorder can be caused by the lack of influential role of parents during the language stage of their development. Having a strict and uninvolved parent can cause the child to become unhappy and feel guilty. Emotion regulation depends on the child's relationship with the father. Children with parents who are not involved in their lives are more likely to be maltreated. Therefore, a child without a secure attachment with parents is more likely to have difficulties later in life. The King's Speech is the story of King George VI and his struggle to overcome his speech impediment, which made him doubt his ability to become king. King George VI, also known as Bertie, started out as Duke of York and worked with many different speech therapists to help him cure his stammer, all of which ended unsuccessfully. It is Bertie's wife, the Duchess of York, who finds Dr. Lionel Logue. Lionel is a bit unorthodox in his techniques, such as making his patients sing, listening to loud music through headphones while reading aloud, and encouraging them to swear while speaking. Bertie gets frustrated when he thinks nothing is working and gives up on his first day with Lionel. It's only when he listens to the recording of himself speaking perfectly that he realizes that Lionel can help him. With the help of Lionel's unorthodox therapy, Bertie is able to speak to his county in his time of need and finds a lifelong friend. In the film, Bertie's mother had an uninvolved parenting style because she didn't seem to care; she would simply follow her father's rules. His father, King George V, had a very authoritative document...... middle of paper......er Bertie to his mother she would pinch him knowing it would make him cry. He also knew that the mother would not want to take care of the crying baby and give him back. The nanny often refused to feed him to punish him if he cried, causing stomach problems. Bertie explains to Lionel how the child abuse went on for about three years before his parents realized what was happening. This is an example of negligent parenting because they were not aware of what is happening in their child's life (Berger, 2011, p.274). Parenting styles can affect how a child sees themselves, in this case harsh parenting caused Bertie to feel unhappy. and internalize his problems. It also leads to not teaching him how to properly manage his emotions. Finally it was also shown that because his parents were not aware of what was happening in his life, he was more prone to abuse.
