Logos appeals to reason, which are things like facts and statistics, and works in the writer's favor because it provides more information to the reader, than in in turn builds the writer's case. Nemko opens almost immediately with a “killer statistic” that warns that even if a student is putting in an extended amount of time, if he or she hasn't graduated in the top half of the class it's very unlikely they will earn some sort of degree. .
