The Tell Tale Heart and The Black Cat is about men who are in a paranoid state who show remorse for the murders they commit. Paranoia is a thought process believed to be greatly influenced by anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion. When I think of someone in a paranoid state I think they can be helped, it might take time to cure the paranoia, but it would be worth it. The men Edgar Allan Poe created in these tales are too lost to be helped. The murders that happened in these two stories were sick and sadistic and seemed to show no remorse, but it started to eat them up inside for what they did. The Tell-Tale Heart and the Black Cat both end with Poe's trademark. After killing the old man, he dismembered him by cutting off his head, then his arms and then his legs. Then the narrator took three boards from the floor of his room and placed the body parts between the boards so that no eyes, not even his own, could see them. The narrator felt that he would be able to get away with the crime he committed, but he was very wrong. The narrator started hearing a knock on the door and went to open it and it was three policemen who said the neighbor heard a scream and suspected it might have been foul play. The smart thing about that madman is that he behaved calmly and peacefully with the policeman, even though he had to do it because he had committed the crime and didn't want the police to suspect anything, but this shows that he had some loose screws in his body. Head. The narrator shows the police around the house, he even takes the police to the crime scene upstairs in the old man's bedroom, this shows that he was very comfortable and not worried. He even had the audacity to get chairs for the policemen to sit in the old man's bedroom. He even took a chair and sat down right where the body was. This wasn't a very safe move for the narrator, if I were him I would have just had the police search the house like they already did and if they didn't suspect something I would have tried to make them leave in a nice way so they don't
