Being truly free is something many of us have not experienced. To truly have justice for us is something many of us have not experienced. Not feeling truly confined and limited in a seemingly “free” nation is something many of us have never experienced. Freedom is something that America and its founding fathers emphasized, but the question is: is everyone equally free? As Martin Luther King Jr. stated, “I dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” He hoped so many years ago, and his “dream” is still alive and yet to be seen. Schools program their kids to sing about their freedom every single morning by reciting the words “with liberty and justice for all,” but is every child who recites it truly free? In a country that stresses the importance of equality, the one thing many people think we have, is the one thing we're missing. “Sometimes racism is so widespread that it is visible, other times it is less evident, but always, day after day. day out, we're breathing it. Dr. Tatum defines racism as a system of advantage based on race. It is ingrained in our culture making it difficult to discern truth from lies. While systemic racism offers advantages to some, it offers very humiliating disadvantages to others. Most dominant groups do not think they have any advantages over other races. They are oblivious to the fact that they are actually, to some extent, privileged. They have white privilege, that is, concrete benefits of access to resources and social rewards, as well as the power to shape the norms and values of society that they consciously or unconsciously receive from color or… the medium of paper. ....b, or leave. Had an individual thought or phenomenon that “we talk too much,” even classifying myself as “us” and not an individual, as if all black people are in a “group,” but I myself am an individual. To overcome racism we must first take race into account. There is no other way. And to treat some people the same, we have to treat them differently.” To break the chains of racism, people must begin to change themselves before they begin to change society. People need to educate themselves and see how their own judgments can change their perception, but first the way they think must change. As? Start by making a change and not following the moving walkway, but instead moving in the opposite direction with all your might, even though it may be difficult to take every step in the opposite direction that no one else is going
