In the story Arredondo exposes the conflict between herself and others because the protagonist, Luisa, has to take care of her uncle Apolonio and that situation takes away Luisa's freedom. However, what drives Luisa crazy was when Apolonio takes advantage of her new marital situation and forces her to perform her duties as a wife. He had to deal with Apollonius' lust for several years. “He wanted me to be there all day, always at his side, to provide for his needs, to touch him” (86) is how Luisa describes Apolonio's new attitude. Finally, after several years, the conflict is resolved when Apolonio dies and Luisa regains her freedom. However, she couldn't be the same person as before
