There are some very good reasons why you might want to abandon the idea of using trigger warnings. The biggest problem is that if you get triggered by something in a college class, you don't need the school to step up and take care of you, you should go to therapy. Sarah Roff's class reading told us that one of the hallmarks of PTSD is avoidance. For example, if something so traumatic happened to you that you developed PTSD, you will do everything you can to avoid situations that remind you of that event. By offering a warning sign, the school becomes complicit in promoting an environment that makes it easier to go untreated. For these reasons it becomes a moral question. The world can be a terrible place and if you are unable to observe some parts of it, you should take some time off until you are ready to do so.
