An example is when Nick demonstrates his non-judgmental attitude by not judging anyone in the film. For example, when Tom takes out the book about white supremacy, he keeps his mouth shut and his thoughts to himself even though he knows Tom is a fool. Just like in the book, he is a modest character with good morals and treats everyone with respect to a certain extent. While Nick isn't as important a narrator in the film as he is in the book, it detracts from Fitzgerald's portrayal of Nick because it's not really Fitzgerald speaking as Nick, it's more Nick the character speaking his opinions. As for Gatsby, he is exactly the same in the film as in the book and clearly describes what Fitzgerald imagines himself to be. Similar to Nick, Fitzgerald found his different lifestyle to be exciting. And similar to Gatsby Fitzgerald idolized the rich and extravagant lifestyle. In conclusion The Great Gatsby seems to reflect the personal experiences of Fitzgerald's life but not his entire life. Fitzgerald imagined Gatsby as what he dreamed of being and always tried to be like. And Nick was the person that Fitzgerald really embodies. Both of these characters in The Great Gatsby can help us understand more about Fitzgerald and what he was trying to say through the characters in the book about his own life.
