I strongly believe that my family should participate in Turn Off the TV Week for many reasons. First of all, it will be interesting to discover other activities to do instead of watching TV. It's possible that we discover something very fun that hasn't been discovered before. We might even continue to explore these interests beyond the week we turn off the TV. The Cold War was a very tense period involving many complicated situations. Most of these situations could have been avoided if some nations had made more changes within their governments. Change allows you to share and put new ideas into practice. Change is important because it can affect the state of a country, that country's international relations, and can even affect the world. One lesson that can be learned from the Cold War is that change can be a good thing. One significant positive change that allowed America to explore new frontiers was the result of putting a man on the Moon. The Space Race was a competition between the Soviet Union and the United States to be the first to put humans on the Moon. In an effort to beat the Soviet Union in space, America developed many new technologies that allowed us to do many things we couldn't do before. The United States won the space race when Apollo 11 landed on the Moon in 1969. America “pledged the funding necessary to win the race and, amid the unhappiness of the Vietnam War era, gave the nation a improvement he desperately needed” (Veve ). The United States benefited from winning the space race in two main ways. From the Cold War, an important lesson we can learn is that change can be a good thing and that changes need to be made to have peace. This lesson can be carried forward around the world for a long time, because it can be applied to every country and will help avoid conflicts that have yet to occur.
