Topic > Analysis of "The Handmaid's Tale" - 1871

In the book Offred walks through the halls when everyone is supposed to be sleeping. Offred thinks to herself “I want to steal something” (Atwood, pg. 97) while in bed. When she is out looking for something to get, Nick comes up behind her and says "He wants to see you. In his office" (Atwood, p. 99). This is another important section of the story, because Margaret shows that Offred is trying to rebel again. Not just for wanting to steal something, but also for walking alone in the hallway. Margret also puts Nick in the picture because Nick and Offred should never talk to each other or even be alone with each other.
