OverviewMy final article will discuss the effects of deforestation on indigenous peoples in Indonesia, Australia, and Brazil. Factors contributing to deforestation are: lack of available arable land due to increased agricultural needs; illegal logging to produce wood products; and forest fires that could be due to natural or intentional causes (WWF,2013). All these activities have a negative impact not only on the biodiversity of these regions, but also on the forest communities that depend on them for their livelihoods. Green Peace (2013) proposed some key solutions that need to be implemented to control the rate of deforestation around the world. First, the multinationals behind these destructive activities also have the power to reduce their impact and should start acting more responsibly. Secondly, consumers need to become more aware of how and where their products come from by purchasing sustainable options. Finally, politics plays a crucial role in managing forestry activities and governments must implement rigorous policies to achieve ambitious goals such as zero deforestation by 2020. Outline Introduction-The main causes of deforestation.-Current and future trends.-Consequences of deforestation. Discussion -Current health trends of indigenous populations.-Causes of deforestation in Indonesia, Australia and Brazil.-Impacts on the health of indigenous populations in these countries due to deforestation.ConclusionSummary of key research findings.BibliographyKunitz,SJ (2000). “Public Health Then and Now: Globalization, States, and the Health of Indigenous Peoples.” American Journal of Public Health. vol. 90 (10), pp: 1531-1539. This article discusses relations between states... middle of paper... and the only way to control them is through policies that also reduce greenhouse gas emissions. O'Sullivan,D. (2011). “Justice, culture and the political determinants of Australian Indigenous health.” Ethnicities. vol. 12(6), pp: 687-705. The article explains why Australia's indigenous population has a significantly lower life expectancy than the rest of the population. Inadequate housing conditions, lack of education, participation in the labor market and access to traditional resources for economic purposes contribute to the differences. These differences lead to health problems, and politics has a huge role to play in this. One of the case studies that I will discuss in my article is Australia, so this article provides details that are very important for my research. This article highlights the importance of politics and how it affects populations both positively and negatively.
