Recovering from the recessionThe three trends are:• Teacher layoffs• Fewer summer classes• Fewer school counselorsTeacher layoffsTeacher layoffs is a trend that has been around for decades, however in recent years this trend has increased noticeably. It has since caused significant stress to several stakeholders such as administrators, teachers, students and parents in particular. So, I believe that firing teachers is important when school finances are threatened. If such action is not taken, the most likely action will be to close the school because there will be no money to pay the teachers. Furthermore, for the daily survival of the school. Even though schools are not a for-profit entity, it is still important to note that at the end of the day they do not owe more than they earn. The layoffs will allow schools to operate in a less stressful environment and will not allow this shortage to trickle down to students. It's heartbreaking when you have to take such action, but over time it's the best thing for the institution. In some cases, some schools may rehire some teachers, which rarely happens, and if they do, a significant number are not rehired. Consequently, when a school is considering dismissing teachers, I believe it is still important to ensure that teachers most effectively remain on staff. It is critical to continued student achievement because high teacher turnover can and will impact student success in the future. However, it is depressing to note that students are the most affected when such a decision is made. ... half of the paper ... tio will be at one, and they would not have enough time to handle individual issues. It is important to have counselors in schools, they are the ones who assist in giving advice to students on how to deal with their emotions, conflicts and personal problems. They also help guide students toward career paths and help them manage different circumstances they may encounter at school. Through counseling they will be better able to develop problem solving skills that will help them manage life problems. Students are encouraged to live peacefully with their peers and this bridges the gap between home and school. Counselors are generally able to make students develop trust in them and in return are able to confide in counselors. Sometimes there are questions that they would feel more comfortable asking a counselor rather than their parents.
