8 March 2014, Malaysia Airlines issued an official report confirming that its flight MH 370 had lost contact with Subang air traffic control a few hours after the takeoff from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). This flight, scheduled from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, not only traumatized the families involved, but also created great controversy in the following weeks. As the world watched through the eyes of the media, this mysterious incident was quickly reported by them with bizarre conspiracy theories about this missing flight given by these media outlets as a perfect move to sell their news and stories. Surprisingly, among these theories was the act of jihadist terrorist threat by the Malaysian Muslim, such that it mimicked the 9/11 incident. In one of his Tweets, Rupert Murdoch, an Australian-American business tycoon, said that “the 777 incident confirms that jihadists are turning to create trouble for China. Possibility for the United States to make common cause, to make friends with China while Russia bullies." How could this ambiguous case be linked to an act of terror? What drives him, as well as the rest of the world, to make such an irresponsible accusation? This is one of the extreme examples of the misconceptions and skeptical minds that the global world has engulfed in the post-9/11 period. As the rest of the world fully relies on the media to gain access to this incident, they have brilliantly used this opportunity to brainwash our minds with conspiracy theories of terrorism and the jihadist movement. Despite all this blind accusation, what does the term 'jihad' really mean, in the exact context in which it is mentioned in the Quran?
