Topic > Case Study Branda - 1393

Branda is a 20 year old Caucasian female. As I look at the story, I notice that Branda's family was middle class, however, Branda's family was forced down the ladder when Branda was nine years old. At nine years old, Old Branda and her family moved to a trailer park. Branda began trying to make friends but found it difficult, the only friends he managed to make were those involved in gangs. When Branda was ten and one of her best friends, friends committed suicide because she felt like no one cared. Again, at the age of fifteen, another of her friends committed suicide after being bullied at school. Branda had difficulty dealing with the grief she felt from the loss and was hospitalized for eight days. At nineteen his family was forced to move in with his grandmother with whom he doesn't get along. When Branda started using drugs at nineteen, her family tried to help her. At the age of twenty, her grandmother kicked her out of the house for bringing drugs into the house. Branda started blaming everyone for her problems. Finally, three months after being kicked out of the house, she asked her parents for help and they took her to a drug rehabilitation center. Branda's family on both sides shows mental illness. Branda was sent to therapy after she cut herself badly, which forced her to be hospitalized. Branda appears to be reserved and reluctant to communicate. After waiting several minutes, Branda begins to speak rapidly. Branda says she hates having to be here, she feels angry and irritable. Branda complains of having a headache. Branda is complaining about how her parents had hospitalized her twice before because she became uncontrollable and cut herself. The second time she went to Oakland she was six years old and stayed there for two weeks to stabilize her. This... half of the paper... ls. I recommend Branda receive medication and have recommended her to a psychiatrist I have worked with. Additionally, I recommend family therapy to help the family support each other. Through family therapy they will learn to recognize the signs of an episode or an imminent relapse. The family will be taught how to use communication skills to help Branda cope with the situation and stop the negative feelings. The family will be shown problem solving skills designed to help Branda deal with her bipolar disorder. The family will be taught steps to take when Branda has difficulty dealing with her bipolar disorder. Branda will be able to fully recover if he follows the recommendations of individual and family therapy. Additionally, I recommend that you see a psychiatrist and prescribe medications to help with your bipolar disorder...
