Topic > Before I Fall: Sam Kingston - 915

In the book Before I Fall, readers experience life seven times through a teenage girl with the hope of surviving. The main character, Sam Kingston, whose life was fleeting, dies in a car accident and is thrown into turmoil. However, he relives that day again and again seven times; all with different endings. Through his repeated days in Before I Fall, readers will discover that Sam Kingston is confident, determined, loyal, and caring. By reading Before I Fall, readers will learn what caring truly means. Sam Kingston dies and relives that day more than seven times. He learned after the first day not to take life for granted. Sam was very thoughtful. For example, to save himself from death, he stayed home from school. This may not be a big deal to some readers, but Sam had a younger sister, Izzy. Some readers may find their siblings annoying and try to avoid them; however, Izzy was never hostile towards Sam. Therefore, when Sam stayed home, she agreed to let Izzy stay home with her. Spending the day together, Sam did everything Izzy wanted to do. His choice was to visit Goose Point, a rock where geese always flew. Even if this was nonsense to Sam; nevertheless he left anyway. While there, Sam wanted to say very kind words to Izzy that she hadn't had the courage to say before. Sam didn't want to cry in front of her sister, because that would show Izzy how upset she was. The kind words were “I feel a pain in my throat, but I can smile. Two conflicting desires pass through me at once, each as sharp as a razor blade: I want to see you grow and never change” (Oliver 284). Izzy was never an ignominy to Sam. For Sam, caring for her meant loving his sister and saving one of his classmates from death. This classmate, Ju... middle of paper... doesn't want to do it, she does it anyway. “Lindsey and I decide to cut seventh period and go to TCBY. Linsey speaks French, which she can't stand, and I speak English” (Oliver 44). This shows how loyal Sam was to his friends and how close they were to each other. In the end, Sam was confident, determined, caring and loyal. I'm not afraid, if that's what you're wondering. The moment of death is full of sound and heat and light, so much light filling me, absorbing me: a tunnel of light receding, arching up, up, up, and if singing were a feeling it would be this, this light, this lifting, how to laugh... The rest you have to discover for yourself. (Oliver 470) This explains that Sam was trying not only to save his life but also the lives of others. Before I Fall shows readers to live life to the fullest and never regret anything; also, living a lavish life.
