August Bell12/4/13Prompt Two“The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe is a poem written between 1800 and 1850. It tells the story of a grieving young man for the loss of his love, Lenore. One night he was reading "Forgotten Traditions" as a way to clear his mind of his lost love. But while he was reading, he heard a “knock on his bedroom door” but at first reveals nothing when he goes to investigate the noise. But when the noise returns, he goes to check and it is a raven, which simply sits “on a bust of Pallas above the door”. Then, start asking the Crow questions. He asks whether or not he will be reunited with his love again in heaven, to which the raven replies, "Never again." Poe. Before he began to inquire about his lost love, he noticed a strong smell of perfume and began calling himself a wretch, thinking he had gone mad. He realizes it's the Crow's fault. This angers the narrator and he begins calling the Crow an "evil thing" and a "prophet." Poe Ultimately, the narrator admits that his soul is trapped under the raven's shadow and will be relieved, "Nevermore." Poe This poem is a fantastic depiction of life in America during the 1800s. During the Romantic period, it validated strong emotions, placing emphasis on emotions such as apprehension, horror, terror, and amazement. In "The Raven", you can see that Poe was putting emphasis on amazement, as the narrator was surprised by the raven at first. "But the raven, sitting alone on the placid bust, uttered only: That word, as if he poured his soul into that one word. Nothing else then uttered - not a feather then fluttered - until I scarcely more than muttered: "Others friends have flown away before - Tomorrow will leave me, as before my hopes had flown." 'Then...... in the center of the sheet......natural world, while “The Story of an Hour” describes the culture of thinking and living every day. “The Crow” helps us understand the Romantic period, as the author has shown all the components of a fantastic work written during the Romantic period “The Story of an Hour” to us helps to understand someone's daily life in the 19th century. After telling us about Mrs. Mallard's husband's work, we can automatically think in our heads about the industrial revolution and the effect it had on American history he says their means of communication at the time were quite different. Finally, her feelings towards her husband show that it is possible that not many women were happy in their marriage. The two works tell us about two different cultures during the nineteenth century, which can show great similarities and differences between 1845 and 1845. 1849.
