In his first step of “Defining Acceptable Behavior” (Myatt, 2012) his advice to “create a framework for decisions, using a delegation statement of published authority, encouraging healthy business practices of collaboration, team building, leadership development and talent management will help avoid conflict,” (Myatt, 2012) is very sound advice. I think it would be really helpful for everyone to have predefined rules and operating procedures to foster a good working environment. In the second phase, “Hit Conflict Head-on” (Myatt, 2012), he advises looking for conflict and “proactively intervening in a fair and decisive way”. (Myatt, 2012) I think this is fantastic advice: the sooner you can deal with a conflict, the less time it has to get worse. I also completely agree with your statement “taking time to identify and understand natural tensions will help avoid unnecessary conflict.” (Myatt, 2012) By taking time to do this at the beginning, you can save time at the end. Step 3 “Understand the WIIFM factor” (Myatt, 2012) whereby WIIFM stands for “what’s in it for me”. (Myatt, 2012) I agree that it would be crucial to understand the motivations of others before intervening and how helping people achieve their goals would help avoid conflict. However, I could see a potential downside to this advice and that some people might feel offended if they do this
