I've Always Liked MathematicsI've always really liked mathematics, and perhaps naturally, I'm looking for a finance major. However, I have other interests besides mathematics. I believe that a degree course in Economics and Management would be more satisfying due to its diversity of elements. When I recently became vice principal, my interest in management was reawakened. Now I have important responsibilities. I have become much more aware of time management, working as part of a team, setting goals and representing both the headteacher and pupils. Being part of the Sixth Form Council, the school's prefectural forum, has made me more confident in expressing my opinions and developing my listening skills. Working as an administrative assistant in an architectural firm in London for my work experience was very rewarding: I improved my IT skills and my ability to deal with new situations. I also worked for the British Council in Cairo teaching English. I'm really enjoying the International Baccalaureate and one recent project in particular stands out, the Science project. As secretary of our group, I had to make sure everyone was working, organize meetings and prepare a formal presentation, which was recorded on video. This project demonstrated how a team worked under pressure and that working together was essential. I like sport and started playing squash when I first came to Gigglesworth and earlier this year I was made captain, again a useful experience for dealing with people who aren't always available . I not only work with my colleagues, but I also guide them: I can see how individual efforts impact the entire team. Leading fundraising events for Amnesty International further honed my organizational skills. Recruiting new members to the group also tested my promotional skills. I completed the Silver level in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award program in 1999. I have almost completed the Gold level, which was very challenging but great fun.
