Molly Morrison21 April 2014Theatre 1009- ThorsonMetamorphosesSet in and around a pool of water, Metamorphoses is based on Ovid's classic tale, which tells the myths of transformation of the ancient Romans and Greeks. Kevin Crowe directed Mary Zimmerman's Tony Award-winning play using contemporary language and familiar historical characters. The ensemble of 10 CU students brought the stories to life as they delved into themes of transformation and change, easily visible through the use of water and its fluidity. The cast explored what it means to be alive through moments of change and the expression of universal emotions on the beautifully set stage. The focal point of the set was very unique as the action of the show takes place in a large swimming pool, which took up the entire stage. . It reinforced the shared nature of the human condition as artists interacted with this fundamental element. The water was a constant reminder of the qualities of water and the sea.
