Topic > Feminist Political Ideology - 1237

Throughout history, women have remained subordinate to men. Subjected to the patriarchal system that favored male perspectives, women struggled to not have much less of the freedoms, rights, and burdens that society imposed on them and that had been so ingrained in the culture. This is the point of view of feminists, who for almost 160 years have been challenging "the unjust distribution of power in all human relations" starting from the fight for equality between men and women, and connecting it to the "struggles for social rights , racial, social and social.” political, environmental and economic justice” (Besel 530 and 531). Feminism, as a complex movement with many different branches, has and will continue to be incredibly influential in changing lives. Feminist political ideology focuses on understanding and changing political philosophies for the betterment of women. By studying how philosophies are constructed and what makes them unjust, this field constantly generates new ideas about how these philosophies should be fundamentally reconstructed. Liberal feminism, for example, was built on promoting economic and political equality for women. Supporting old concepts of the division between public and private realms as a way to politically protect male domination over women as “natural,” and ideas about women's place in the family, evidence has emerged to support legal cases leading to “criminalization of marital rape in the United States” (qtd. in McAfee). Another completely different approach is radical feminism, which advocates separation from the entire system, perceiving sexual relations between male and female as the basis of gender inequality and female subordination (qtd. in McAfee).
