They are all very different from each other. Some are young, some are old, different types of races and families are homeless such as Hispanic, American, Asian and African American. Most of the homeless slept in large cardboard boxes containing household appliances from washing machines and refrigerators. They placed the cardboard on a grill and the heat coming from below helped keep them warm. Others lived near waste or lived on money given to them by people passing by or by handing over cans or bottles for a few bucks. Some even donate blood to get some quick cash, but only those who are sick. Some of them are entrepreneurial. They take leftover food from shelters and try to sell it on the streets. They will try to sell anything to make some money, so they can have a meal to eat. Many homeless people also suffer from different types of diseases, such as AIDS, pneumonia, tuberculosis, malnutrition, dental problems and infections. Many homeless people have leg problems due to the amount of time they spend standing and walking without resting. Many have not received medical care for a long time. Sometimes there are some homeless people who suffer from drug and alcohol problems which lead them to other diseases, such as liver disease and hepatitis. Some homeless women have been raped before and may be pregnant. They just didn't realize they were. The longer a person remains homeless, the worse it starts to get. Those who remain homeless for many years cause their overall health to deteriorate. They begin to lose touch with society. Their minds are set only to seek food and shelter. People have suggested that homeless people are homeless because they have mental problems. Even if someone was perfectly healthy when they became homeless, the desperation and fear continued unabated
