Public Health Issue: Smoking This essay aims to explore, analyze, and discuss smoking in adults. Smoking is a public health issue as such it is a major contributor to high mortality and preventable diseases in adults (Health and Excellence Care (NICE) (2012). The UK is known to have the highest number of people with a history of smoking among people with low socio-economic status (Scriven and Garman, 2006; Goddard and Green, 2005). Smoking is considered a serious epidemic in the UK and by the National Institute for Health and Excellence Care (). NICE, 2012) stated that 28% of adults with low economic status are tobacco smokers compared to 13% of those with economic status or with professional incomes. Furthermore, almost 80,000 people died in England in 2011 due to smoking-related problems and 9,500 hospitalisations. of children who died from passive smoking (WHO, 2005). This essay focuses on the definition of smoking, the objective is to underline the relationship between smoking and the determinants of health and therefore the extent, prevalence and trend of smoking morbidity. will be explored. Furthermore, some public health policies introduced to address smoking related issues will be examined and finally the role of nurses will identify the health needs of the public so as to promote good health and well-being. The Encyclopaedia of Children's (2013) stated that smoking is a form of inhaling the smoke of different forms of tobacco which include cigarettes, pipes, and cigars. Cancer Research (2012) and the World Health Organization (2013) have confirmed that most tobacco products contain very high levels of nicotine which may have an additive effect and are made from tobacco leaves that are half of the paper. ....life. Furthermore, smokers must be encouraged to quit, so it may take many attempts before victims are able to quit completely. However, good communication with smokers requires careful discussion to reduce the risk of early problems related to addiction failure. If nurses could do their duty by asking each of their patients to stop smoking, then it would take a long time to reach many people, even if they don't want to. There is already a smoke-free policy in the UK which works and hopefully will help reduce smoking again. It is important for the government to do more anti-smoking campaigns to reach the manual and routine group and follow up on the issue of quitting completely. Additionally, they must increase tobacco tax rates and put an end to stores still advertising cigarette smoking in their stores.
