People work hard and always achieve good things. People who don't work don't get good things. This is what happens in the book The Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter Dean Myers. In this story a boy named Greg leaves his home and goes to an abandoned tenement after his father tells him he can't play for the basketball team because of his grades. There he meets a man named Lemon Brown who tells him about his treasure. They defend the house from evil people who want its treasure and Lemon Brown then shows Greg his treasure, a harmonica. The theme of The Treasure of Lemon Brown is working hard to achieve positive results. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Greg had failed math because he didn't study hard enough and his father wouldn't let him enroll for this reason. “But the principal ended the suspense early when she sent the letter saying that Greg would probably fail math if he didn't spend more time studying.” This shows that Greg was about to fail in math, meaning he wasn't working hard enough. It also shows that Greg needed to study hard to convince his father to let him join the basketball team and since he didn't he couldn't make the team. This proves the theme because if he had worked hard he would have gotten the favorable outcome of being on the basketball team, thus showing that positive results are achieved by working hard. Greg's father worked hard to become a postal worker. Greg thought about his father as he sat on a couch in the abandoned building and how his father was extremely proud of being a postal worker. “His father worked as a postal worker all of Greg's life, and he was proud of it, often telling Greg how hard he worked to pass the test.” The important part of this quote is the part where he says how hard he worked to pass the test. This shows that he had to work hard to pass the test to become a postal worker. Since having a job is conducive to not having a job and having to work hard to find one, this quote confirms the theme, work hard to gain positive benefits. Please note: this is just an example.
