This essay will be a summary of chapter 7 of From Clue to Dock, The Kidnapping of Charlie Ross. The Ross family was rich and this led a pair of criminals to plan the kidnapping of Charlie and his older brother Walter, aged three and seven respectively. What happened to a little boy named Charlie Ross from Philadelphia is still a mystery to this day. This mystery first began on July 1, when both Charlie and Walter could not be located anywhere that day. As the police were informed to locate these rich boys on behalf of their father soon after a telegraph was sent across the city. After many hours of searching, Walter was found far from his home, eight miles away. When Walter was brought home he recounted the events that had led to his discovery in the country. He remembered playing in front of the house as two men in their car invited Walter and Charlie inside. The car sped off as the children got in, and soon after Walter began to fuss and scream. This led to the kidnappers becoming frustrated, knowing that the older child would bring more trouble, so they abandoned him on a country road and continued on without Walter. When this crucial piece to the puzzle was added by Walter, the police notified more officers to be on the lookout for the culprits. Meanwhile, Mr Ross had issued a reward for any leads in the case using advertisements. The police, however, did not approve of Mr Ross's adverts. They believed that if Mr. Ross agreed to pay for any information about the mystery he would condone even more such behavior. Nonetheless, the kidnappers established contact soon after the announcement was published. The most optimistic approach to what happened to young Charlie Ross is that nothing occurred to him and he was able to live well into old age, without knowing the horrors that befell him at such a young age. On the other hand, the pessimistic approach to what had happened to him was that Moster had abandoned Charlie in a remote location while the bandits set off on what would be their final robbery. Leaving Charlie to suffer and die alone. Whatever the theory, what really happened to Charlie Ross remains a mystery to this day. Every clue added to the Charlie Ross mystery wasn't enough to complete the entire puzzle in the end.
