With the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century there has been a constant war on terrorism. Does this mean that Armageddon is near and people should prepare for the end or does it simply mean that there is just a misunderstanding of the many different cultures and religions of this world? To understand where terrorists come from it is necessary to understand where they come from and what they do. Find out if these acts are political, religious, freedom of rights, or simply the belief that destroying the world is the only way to save it. When you think of these situations, the Japanese terrorist group Aum Shinrikyo comes to mind. The Aum Shinrikyo believe in all these matters where the reason for their sect or terrorist group lies. How did Aum Shinrikyo manage to cross the crucial threshold from simply anticipating Armageddon to taking active measures to bring it about? Taking a look at the origin of this group, it all started from the idea of a man named Chizuo Matsumoto. Chizuo grew up on the southern island of Kyushu, Japan. His father was a Tanami weaver in a family of 4, being the fourth child. Chizuo was born legally blind in his left eye and had partial vision in his right. This allowed him to attend a boarding school for the blind. As a child, Chizuo bullied other classmates because of the advantage of having sight in his eyes. After graduating from Tokyo Prep School, Matsumoto tried to attend the University of Tokyo but was denied, this infuriated him asking "Why do I always lose?" His luck changed for the better after he met his future wife Tomoko, in whom they married in 1978. Using money from his wife's family he opened an acupuncture clinic. Treating patients with herbal healing and... middle of paper... and international preparation as we enter the next millennium. It serves as a stark wake-up call to the United States which until recently was quite complacent about the threat of terrorism. The cult's activities were and continue to represent a security concern for the Secret Service protecting the President of the United States. Works Cited1.
