Topic > The New Denver Airport - 3694

SUMMARY Denver International Airport is undergoing innovative change through various initiatives and policies. Given that DIA is the largest airport in the country, it is critical that budget and project planning be addressed and redeveloped in an efficient and productive manner. As a principal consultant to management, I am responsible for evaluating cost and service challenges related to the construction and operation of the new airport in Denver, Colorado. Additionally, the comprehensive report provided will recommend solutions and strategies that address these cost and service issues. Information gathered indicates that DIA needs options to reduce the loss of travelers and revenue to the Colorado Springs Airport. Furthermore, an evaluation of the main components and considerations leads to a cost-benefit analysis for the construction of the new airport. As indicated in this report, DIA will follow five steps that constitute the formal cost-benefit analysis for better quality construction and operation. Additionally, the DIA assessment reveals that several components were overlooked, resulting in cost overruns of $3.2 billion. The recommendations consist of establishing a strategy for cost and service issues, building a one-mile runway and a 10-phase project planning guide. The three recommendations provide appropriate solutions that will reduce the loss of travelers and revenue to the Colorado Springs Airport. This report is a comprehensive assessment with recommendations derived from extensive Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) research, project management life cycle, and cost-benefit analysis guidance.
