Rwandan Genocide: Tutsi vs. Hutu The many tears streaming down my face cry for the generations of my children to come. I sit here as an innocent Tutsi woman and victim, to tell you my story of the Rwandan genocide and the impact it had on my people. Through many years of pain and suffering I sit here before you to ease my anger and install my knowledge of why Belgium, through colonization, has only installed in me more love towards my people and hatred towards me for not being able to help my people. My name is Immaculee Ilibagiza, a Tutsi woman and this is my story of survival and comfort. According to the book Peacemaking in Rwanda, which Immaculee made my children read (to understand the reason for this hateful genocide in 1994), one We can understand the reason for the genocide if we study the political aspect of the two groups Rwandan Tutsi and Rwandan Hutu. “The 1994 genocide was an apocalyptic event that shocked Rwandan society.” (Jones, pg. 15) The dynamics of the two political groups will explain the reasons why the immaculate Ilibagiza hid in a minister's bathroom with six other women for three months. In April 1994, the genocide carried out by Rwandan extremists due to labor oppression caused tensions between Tutsi and Hutu to reignite. Before many generations of my children were saved, many Tutsi and a small amount of Hutus were killed in the Rwandan genocide, what many would classify as the Rwandan holocaust of 1994. Many of the genocidal attacks on my children were conducted by the Rwandan government. which housed predominantly Hutu people. The genocide that occurred in my homeland, Rwanda, was unfortunately “conducted in ethnic terms”. (Jones, pg. 16) According to various accounts I…middle of the paper…he Hutu. Weren't we all once at the bottom? But once again I pray for my children and their generations to come because the Hutu were once our people and will remain so today. Work cited Fujii, Lee Ann.
