The Affordable Care Act has been at the center of political debate in the United States since current President Barack Obama signed it into law in 2010. The act represents the most significant health regulation overhaul of the United States health care system following the collective passage of Medicaid and Medicare Initially, the ACA was enacted with the goal of increasing the availability of affordable health insurance, lowering the uninsurance rate by expanding l public and private insurance and reducing health care costs for individuals and government (Robert, 2012). Supporters of the law's passage said the ACA provides services for free, such as preventative health coverage for enrollees, requires that insurance companies can no longer deny people or children with pre-existing conditions, and will close the Medicare "Donut Hole" . for prescription drugs. While the law has the potential to provide better quality health care to the American population, opponents argue that the ACA is flawed and could create a quagmire of costs and confusion with its implementation. Arguments against it support the belief that it would force religiously affiliated employers to provide services to employees through their health plans that directly contradict their values. As a result of the costs, companies may cancel their employer's health insurance and pay a penalty instead of paying for employee health insurance. Finally, the law is said to focus more on enrollment rather than managing health care costs. While these issues are pertinent, the overall accessibility to healthcare created by the ACA outweighs the negative arguments.
