NASA's Greatest Achievement In the 1960s humans did something incredible, we put a man into space, walked on the moon and brought him back back alive. Unfortunately in 2011 NASA had to close its doors to the Space Shuttle program due to lack of interest from the public, too high maintenance costs and the age of the fleet. That doesn't mean we can't completely forget about NASA because of the loss of the shuttle program, they still accomplished more than most companies could ever dream of accomplishing. I believe NASA's greatest achievement was putting the first man on the moon with the Apollo missions. I decided to pursue this topic because my family actually has a history that goes hand in hand with missions. My grandfather worked on parts of the lunar module, especially the landing gear. I want to cover this topic in class because this was and still is a very important achievement for our country. 1972 was the last time we set foot on the Moon, with Apollo 17 being the last to orbit the Moon.
