Much suffering and decentralization occurred in the Middle Ages. There are many reasons why this occurred and the solutions to these growing conflicts were feudalism and manorialism. But why were these ideologies used or caused? The reasons for the occurrence of medieval feudalism and manirialism are the political, social decentralization and economic problems that occurred during and after the demise of the Roman Empire, invasions of barbarians, the rise of barbarian kingdoms, civil wars within of the barbarian kingdoms and the need for stability and security that made the people of that time desperate. Medieval feudalism had occurred because of the political disorder that the end of the Roman Empire left behind, as well as the invasions and rise of barbarian empires such as the Carolingians. These changes in Western Europe had created a confusing political system and from it a new system had to arise. When the Roman Empire disappeared, the way it ruled and reformed the places it ruled went with it. So without a political system to follow there is no order. As the Roman Empire disintegrated, invasions and civil wars became greater. All these invasions of the barbarians had caused the kingdoms to grow for these invaders. One of the many barbarian kingdoms are the Carolingians. This empire had tried many tactics to create a stable system within the territory, but civil wars did not allow it to create political stability. So, like the Roman Empire, the Carolingian Empire had to be divided and this did not improve anything. Feudalism was the only usable political stability because all factors favored it. The few political factors that caused feudalism lead to... middle of paper... reasons in which the demise of feudalism the Roman Empire, invasions, barbaric empires that had the same outcome as the Roman Empire, and civil wars. The social reason was that kings were weakening and nobles were gaining authority because they had all the components that appealed to people living in the disaster lands of Western Europe. Manorialism could be caused by the same factors as feudalism, but appears to be caused by an economic influence. Trade was in decline and without trade the land and people would die and collapse because there was nothing to support the economy. Both distinctive systems were solutions to problems that had arisen in the Middle Ages. Works cited by Mckay, John, Bennett Hill, John Buckler, Clare Haru Crowston, and Merry Wiesner-Hanks.
