Tropical rainforestMore than half of the world's tropical rainforests are found in Central and South America, but they are also found in Southeast Asia and Africa . All of the world's tropical rainforests are located at approximately -20 degrees latitude, also known as the area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. These types of areas exist because of the specific climate, soil types, and diversity found in these regions. This specific area falls within the equatorial and tropical zones and therefore their climates are controlled by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and its low pressure centers around the equator. The winds present are humid equatorial (mE) and humid tropical (mT). There is no clear seasonality in these regions, where the temperature rarely rises above 34 degrees C (93 F) or drops below 20 degrees C (68 F) on a diurnal pattern; with an average humidity of around 83% due to precipitation regimes of approximately 103 inches of rain per year, thus providing an overall very humid climate (Fan, 2014). In terms of landscape, tropical rainforests are generally found at an altitude between 0 and 3000 m depending on the type: lowland tropical evergreen, tropical semi-evergreen, montane, heathland, peat swamp, mangrove or water swamp Sweet. There is no seasonal change in vegetation, the main plants in the biomes are trees which make up about 70% of the vegetation. The dense foliage due to the dense quantity of trees present acts as a shield from the intense sunlight to the plants and other organisms below. Vegetation in the rainforest is limited to species that can tolerate high amounts of precipitation, humidity, low sunlight, low nutrient levels, and acidic soil...... middle of paper ...... a.gov/wed /pages /projects/globalclimatechange/TerrestrialCarbonCycle.pdf>."The tropical rainforest."
