(2009) and Kramer and Hammel (2011) express the importance of engaging with students and listening to their voices. I have learned and believe that it is very important, when considering the education of all students, that student perspectives are heard and valued in order to improve and promote their learning. Knowing this has consequently influenced my skills/practice as I now always find myself considering the perspective of the people involved. For example, my family friend is a teacher assistant and recently complained that she "just can't get him to understand," and my immediate reaction was to ask her if she asked the student how he learns best. He actually reported back to me a week later, saying that he had discussed with the student how he would like to approach the course and that there had been significant improvements
