TREATMENT: The prognosis and treatment options depend on the following: • The stage of the cancer. • If the cancer has blocked or created a hole in the colon. • If there is any cancer cells left after surgery. • If the cancer has come back. • General health status of the patient. Six types of standard treatment are used: Surgery: Surgery is the most common treatment for all stages of colon cancer. Cancer cells can be removed by one of the following procedures: • Local excision: This is done when cancer is found in an early stage. The procedure does not require cutting the abdominal wall to remove the cancer, but a tube with a sharp tube attached to it is placed into the rectum in the colon and then the cancer is removed.
