Boxing can be quite dangerous because you can suffer concussions, broken hands, ribs and nose. I finally chose to write my essay on the history of boxing and some facts about boxing. The reason I chose to write my essay about boxing is because it's the only sport I'm interested in, it's the only thing I'm good at. I hope this essay helps you learn things about boxing that you never knew before. If you are against boxing, I hope this essay helps you understand why people box. I also hope it helps you appreciate the sport a little more. The history of boxing tells you when and how boxing was born, who gave it the rules and why they did it. The history of boxing is really long (2003). The history of boxing dates back to ancient Greece and Rome. Boxing in those days was pretty brutal because all they did was attach skin to their hands (Jezek, 2013). Bare-knuckle boxing tournaments or competitions were held throughout England. Jack Boughton developed the very first set of rules for the sport and published them in 1743 because he killed one of his opponents in 1741 (Boxing Today, 2003). According to Boxing Today the most revolutionary change to the sport of boxing occurred in 1856 when John Sholto developed new rules for boxing that essentially transformed the sport into what it is today (2003). Some really important safety clothing was created by a London dentist, Jack Marles (Boxing Today, 2003). The safety equipment he made is now known as a mouthguard. The establishment of the National Boxing Association in 1927 ensured a fair governing body to review the game and its success (Jezek,2013). Boxing was once a very gruesome and brutal sport before better rules and safer equipment were established. Boxing, often called "t... middle of paper ... variety of contact-related injuries you can suffer. Not all injuries come from getting hit, but from hitting your opponent. You can break fingers, hands or wrists if you hit your opponent badly. Long term injuries are much worse than short term injuries because short term injuries heal and long term injuries don't heal it is a neurological damage (livestrong.com, 2014). These were some of the disadvantages resulting from boxing.
