English is an international language used by most countries in communication, business, education, diplomacy, technology, and international organizations. Many countries agree to use English as a global language (Graddol 2006:87). Speakers using English and other languages ​​to be the center of communication around the world. Globalization of English influences Thai education; as a result, Thai speakers cannot deny all significant trends in the country. However, we have to survive in competition with others, so English language is necessary in education. It is a key to improving students' language proficiency (Paradapat 2011). Thailand uses the English language in development for two aspects. First, English is an important language for Thai citizens in developing the ability to improve international standards. Thai speakers also see others around the world speaking English and using it as a universal language of communication in many places. Additionally, English speakers have greater opportunities for professional success. Secondly, English is an international language that Thailand needs to improve in education because it is a success goal of ASEAN community in 2015. Furthermore, English is an official language that is used in ASEAN for communication and affects Thai speakers to improve knowledge. knowledge of English to compete in the economy with other countries (see Wright, 2007a; Phillipson, 2003; Tosi, 2003). Although English is an important language, many countries have languages ​​that represent their cultures; including Thailand, has Thai language as a symbol to identify a beautiful culture. The main goal of retelling is to tell the meaning of stories through interactive and cooperative learning in the classroom. The interaction in telling stories also depends on the psychology that produces the sharing mind in teachers and students; and students retell the story from the ability to tell stories independently or autonomously (Teale, 1984). Therefore, this study investigates the use of story telling technique to develop English speaking skill and explore independent learning when using retelling stories. Also, speaking English is very important in communication because many foreign countries speak English. In 2015, Thailand will participate in the ASEAN community to create a trading market with other neighboring countries where Thai students are expected to improve speaking skills with foreigners (Sriprachayakul, 2013).
