Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is an excellent fantasy book. The author, JK Rowling, uses great details that include talking animals and quirky characters. Harry Potter not only demonstrated these three key elements, but also represented the exact definition of fantasy, that is, telling an impossible story. We see many examples of this throughout the book. JK Rowling does a magnificent job using detail in this book. He took this to a level that makes the reader feel like they are experiencing the journey right alongside Harry Potter. An example of this is shown when Hagrid tells Harry that he is actually a wizard, "A wizard, of course," said Hagrid, sitting back down on the sofa, who groaned and fell further down. The way Rowling described the sofa in such detail places the reader in the moment, clearly being able to visualize and almost feel the sofa you sit on. Another excellent example of Rowling's detail is when Harry meets Nearly Headless Nick, "He grabbed his left ear and pulled. His whole head came off his neck and fell onto his shoulder as if on a hinge. These two sentences they bring the book to life with more detail. Talking animals play a key role in many good fantasy books. In Harry Potter we see this happen in a couple of situations. At the beginning of the book, Harry goes to the zoo for his cousin's birthday. While there Harry sees a snake in one of the windows of the zoo and the snake somehow manages to escape. When the Serpent comes out he says to Harry: "Brazil, here I am... Thank you, amigo." talking animals, but encounters many other strange non-animal things, for example an owl that delivers the mail. Some typical fantasy characters are also found in the middle of the paper and a specialized audience. This is shown several times in the book, for example, when Harry he lives at the Dursleys' house and receives multiple letters from the same address. It takes a while to find out who or what the letters are from, but we know it's something important that we'll find out in the future. Rowling also does a lot of foreshadowing with several characters in the book such as Voldemort, the murderer of Harry's parents, who ends up playing a larger role in the book towards the end. JK Rowling has done a phenomenal job of making Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone a great fantasy book. He incorporated great details along with the key elements that a fantasy book consists of. Along with a great imagination, this book was crafted to attract the attention of the unsophisticated reader. Although this hasn't stopped his books from becoming some of the best reading in the world.
