Topic > Pitbulls: They are truly the monsters they are made...

Have you ever heard of a TV show called Pit Bulls and Parolees on Animal Planet? The show is about a woman named Tia Torres and her family who came together to defend pit bulls. Tia Torres is the owner of the Villalobos ranch where she rescues pit bulls and parolees and re-educates both to be better for society. Some people believe that dogs and people are untrainable and that it is not worth spending time re-training them. Ms. Torres is using the media to help dogs and parolees so that people have a better idea of what it takes to retrain a dog and to help parolees try to have a better chance of returning to a better life. There are still people who have the misconception that dogs are bad because of their breed and should be banned or euthanized. In a Christian Science Monitor article titled “Dog pack killer,” a pit bull owner was accused of killing joggers. A 29-year-old pit bull owner charged with murder after four of eight dogs, six pit bulls and two mixed breeds attacked and killed a 63-year-old woman, Pamela Devitt. She has been bitten anywhere from 150 to 200 times. Police used DNA to match the blood groups of the dogs and Ms Devitt to prove the dogs attacked her. Pamela Devitt's husband told KCAL-TV he doesn't blame the dogs and he doesn't blame the pit bulls but he blames the owner for what happened, the owner needs to take responsibility for what happened. Unlike Devitt's husband, an article in Live Science, written by Marc Lallanilla, states that there is an overwhelming amount of evidence to suggest that pit bulls deserve their reputation as ferocious "attack" dogs. Lallanilla reviewed a five-year dog bite study from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia...... middle of paper ......ttp://chadwick.iwc.edu:2245/ehost/pdfviewer/pdfviewer?sid =a94099fd-f5f0-42a1-8aa7-b6066d988c15%40sessionmgr4004&vid=3&hid=4207>Reed, Sarah E., Allison L .
