Egyptian Civilization: I chose the Egyptian civilization because it is known as the cradle of modern civilization. Another reason I chose Egyptian civilization is because its contributions to the world are still seen, studied, and absorbed. Egypt's contribution has reached and had a tremendous impact on thousands of cultures around the world. Some of Egypt's contributions that I will talk about are in art, literature and architecture. The Egyptians had little wood to construct their buildings and monuments. The Egyptians lived in the desert where there was little vegetation, so they had to rely on other types of building materials other than forest products. The Egyptians turned to limestones and other materials they could mine in the desert. The Egyptians loved to bury their kings in extravagant tombs. The purpose of the Pyramids is disputed. Most scholars attribute the construction of the Giza pyramids to the need for burial chambers for their kings. Other scholars claim that the Pyramids were built as fortresses. The Pyramids are located less than twenty miles from Cairo, Egypt. The pyramids were built to perpetuate the name of the kings who were buried there. The pyramids also come in different sizes. (Ancient Egypt)What past architecture inspired the pyramids? The largest pyramid is called the Great Pyramid. The Pyramid of Khafre is smaller in size than the Great Pyramid; the smallest of the Giza pyramids is called the Pyramid of Menkaure.
