Studies have already shown that watching movies can lead to obesity. If we play soccer, football and other activities, we can do physical exercise which makes us lose weight, but we gain weight by watching television and movies. More outdoor activities mean less time in front of a computer monitor. The US government's recommendation is also that at least 30 minutes of physical exercise are necessary to stay healthy (Watkin, 2009). Exercising outdoors not only keeps us energetic, but can also help you lose weight. Furthermore, we should get into the habit of reading a book instead of looking at the computer monitor, which might not affect our health, but would instead sharpen our memory. Reading books is another way to spend time wisely compared to media consumption such as watching television and movies. Studies have also found that “unlike television and the Internet, books improve our concentration and cognitive abilities” (2009). Reading a book is a bit like doing a mental exercise for the mind because we have to remember the details, facts, theme, character, plot and many other things about the story. The more we start reading a book, the more likely we are to develop the concentration skills to understand the book.
