In the modeling world, all society sees are beautiful women who seem to have everything perfect; perfect body, face, clothes, waist. But what many people sitting in the audience fail to see is the true horror that comes with being a high fashion model. In reality these women are far from perfect and are stuck in a world full of hunger, drugs, abuse and judgement. "Normal" people don't understand that working in the fashion industry is a dangerous and unhealthy place that could change your life physically and emotionally forever. To be a model, you might think that all someone needs is a pretty face and a tall physique, slim body and must be good with a camera. In some situations this is true, but there is much more. Being a model doesn't just mean someone walks down a famous runway wearing designer clothes. There are many different fields of modeling that require different features and aspects from models. The different modeling jobs are: high fashion, editorial printing, commercial printing, catalog modeling, plus size modeling, glamor modeling, body part modeling, TV commercials, real life models (people models) and TV/film extras . It appears that high fashion modeling work is to be the most demanding of the ten fields, "They are typically required to be between 172cm and 180cm tall (5"8 to 5"11), with a dress size of 4 -6 US (6-8 UK), with a typical bust size 34. The age range can vary from 14 to 25 years old. For boys the age range is more flexible and they can start from 16 years old up to late 40s. Must be between 180 and 188 cm (5”11 to 6”2) tall, have an excellent physique and a chest circumference between 94 and 106 cm (37” to 42”) and a waist between 76 and 81 cm (30” to 32”). " (ModelManagement). Editorial printing also follows more or less the same requirements,...... half of paper......m the disease isn't very scary to models or the public.“Efforts to curb anorexia are well-intentioned but often misguided. Deaths from anorexia are very rare, even in the fashion world. Models are at a much greater risk of dying in the car on the way to a fashion show than of dying from anorexia. Although anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disease, only half of 1 percent of anorexic people die from it each year, and many of these deaths are actually suicides.” (Radford). Another issue involved in the world of modeling is how being a "thin, normal-sized model" is a difficult role to fulfill and leaves many women upset and ashamed because they are labeled as "plus-sized models" when in reality, they are far away. An ABC News article and interview discuss the issue and explain how even plus-size models have changed over time.
