“Who was Corrie Ten Boom?” you might ask. Was Ten Boom a singer, an actress or even a painter? No, she was the woman who strenuously fought against the genocide of the Jews. Cornelia Arnolda Johanna Ten Boom, generally known as “Corrie,” was born on April 15, 1892 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (Wheaton College 2010). Corrie was a courageous woman during the Holocaust era; he courageously took the side of the Jews. However, it was only by the grace of God that he was able to orchestrate a strategic plan to help the Jews; leaving behind the greatest legacy of all, the power of forgiveness through Christ. As we journey through Ten Boom's life, each may be able to decide for themselves whether or not he left the greatest legacy of all. Corrie was the daughter of husband and wife, Cornelia "Cor" Johanna Arnolda (Luitingh) Ten Boom (Wheaton College 2010) and a baby sister of three children, (Betsie), Willem, Hendrick Jan (died in infancy) and Arnold Johanna (Nollie ) (Wheaton College 2010). Corrie lived a normal and happy childhood in the small town of Haarlem, Holland. Corrie and her older sister Betsie have remained single their entire lives (Boom). Subsequently, after their mother's death on October 17, 1921, the other two brothers, Nollie and Willem, married and moved away, Betsie supported the family, and Corrie went to work with her father in his watch and repair shop. As for Corrie's new position at the watch shop, she decided to broaden her watchmaking education; she attended school and became the first licensed female watchmaker in the Netherlands (Nosotro). In addition to the watch shop, it was also the home of the Ten Booms. Several help groups were held in this house.
