The House of Seven Gables doesn't really get off to a good start. It begins with Hepzibah Pyncheon living locked in her house for over 30 years while her brother Clifford Pyncheon is locked away. You would think that these stories would have a different kind of introduction. That's okay though, because later in the story everything will be put together and make sense. This story has so many emotions shown in many different ways. Most of the story takes place at home. Why do you think it is called the house of the seven gables? In my opinion, it takes patience and an avid reader to understand this story. The House of Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne can be best enjoyed by forgetting the Gothic themes of revenge, pride, and romance. Hepzibah Pyncheon, the main character of the story, is the sister of Clifford Pyncheon and cousin of Judge Pyncheon and Phoebe. She is a very strange lady, considering the fact that she has been locked in her house for about 30 years. He has such a strange personality; almost two-faced in my opinion.
