McCourt Family DepressionThe Great Depression was one of the worst economic crises in the United States, it took place in 1930 and lasted until the mid-1940s, before the Second World War, it was the most deep and the longest and most massive depression of the 20th century, people went crazy because there were no stable jobs and everyone was almost bankrupt. The McCourt family was going through a very difficult time in New York City where Malachy and Angela met and got married, Malachy had a lot of problems with alcoholism, he was losing a lot of jobs and their economic side was not good, because he spent his their money on pubs and alcohol instead of spending that money on her children, Angela was in some sort of emotional depression and their future didn't look good, they had to change their environment so they decided to move back to Ireland because the situation they were living in the United States was criticism, was it their best option? Returning to Ireland was a good idea, because in the United States they were experiencing the Great Depression so Malachy's problem made their situation even more critical, he had no job and the small amount of money he had, he spent it in the alcohol so it wasn't fair to Angela and their children, that's why it was a good idea to move back to Ireland, also because they needed a change of environment, in the US they had a tense environment, they needed to start a new life, settle down in a different place, and I think it was a good opportunity for Malachy to reflect and erase all the bad things he was doing and fix them in Ireland. Considering that the main reason they had returned to Ireland was the death of their little daughter, it was a boom for them...... middle of paper......ve to the United States to try to start a new life with a different environment, but unfortunately Malachy's problem continued and was even worse, so their life was unhappy and that's why Frank described his childhood as unhappy, they had to overcome many problems and it didn't go as they imagined. Comparing the US and Ireland situation we can conclude that both countries were facing really difficult times and it was difficult to determine whether it was a good idea to return to Ireland, but I found that it was necessary for the McCourts family to change their environment and try to remake their life in Limerick Ireland, so I think it was a good idea, even though it didn't go the way they wanted, it was really difficult to identify what the best option was but I think I gave enough arguments to show that going back to Ireland was the best option.
