The Most Hated Family in America The topic of homosexuality has been a very hot topic in recent decades. The term homosexuality can be defined as the “sexual desire or behavior towards one or more people of one's own sex” (“Homosexuality”). There are many people who agree or disagree with the aspect of homosexuality, and there are others who are indifferent. Many Christian churches around the world, especially in the United States, have expressed their opinion against homosexuality. They based their beliefs on the verses of 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, which say: “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God" (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version). There is a particular church that was founded in Topeka, Kansas in 1955 called Westboro Baptist Church, led by Pastor Fred Phelps. They focus on preaching against the sins that this world has accepted by picketing soldiers' funerals or any corner where they can profess their hatred towards Americans and the world because of their sins (“God Hates Fags”). The world has expressed its hatred towards this family and they are now called “The most hated family in America” (Theroux). It's easy to see why they are the most hated family in America because they are morally incorrect by Baptist Christian standards. The Christian Baptist Church has a standard manual, The Standard Manual for Baptist Churches, on which they base all of their belief systems.
