As stated in one of my previous essays, I have never considered myself a feminist. I never even raised an issue that after I resigned as Youth Minister at my church, they hired a 19 year old male with no prior experience with youth leaders and decided to pay him double what I had. been paid for the position. If this happened today, however, I would no longer allow the situation to occur without making a BIG issue out of it. Previously, before taking this course, I assumed that men and women were finally on equal footing. However, after spending a long time searching for information on the Internet about the position of women in society, I realized that the place of men and women in society is never the same. This essay examines the collection of 24 indicators to show the status of women in society. All you have to do is turn on the television and actually watch a program to understand the set of ideals hidden in the show. For example, I have been watching the show The Secret Life of the American Teenager since I worked with youth at our church several years ago. It continues to shock me how the parents on the show continually let their kids tell them what they (the kids) are going to do. Grace's mother let Grace spend the night at her boyfriend's house, even though she didn't actually want her to (The Secret Life of the American Teenager). The main theme of the show is sex, sex and more sex. All but one of the teenagers on the show are sexually active, one girl had a child at age 15, and a 17-year-old is preparing to give birth (The Secret Life of the American Teenager). All boys are sexually active too. However, what shocked me the most was when the “Christian” mother told her daughter… in the middle of the newspaper… Ywood Reporter. Network. May 11, 2011.
