Topic > What are the pros and cons of the Fat Tax - 734

Is it really worth more taxes? The government has decided that people should start eating healthy to reduce the obesity rate in the county. To improve this rule, they are ready to pass what they call “fat taxes”. This "fat tax" is supposed to target items that increase the level of obesity and that way Americans would not have the funds to afford this "junk" when prices were inflated. In this essay I will share my opinion on how this “fat tax” will not make America a better nation and as citizens we should care about the well-being of our country. While it may have the potential to reduce obesity, it would also put companies out of business, jeopardize our freedom of choice to eat what we want, and fatty foods would continue to be cheaper than healthy ones. The large companies that supplied these "fatty" items would end up going out of business if this fat tax was passed. This is because with the high tax placed on their products, most Americans would prefer that if you added up the pros and cons of the fat tax, the cons would outweigh the pros. The government should not “pretend” to care about the well-being of citizens in the name of more taxes. They should impose their taxes in a way other than using our food choices as a remedy. They have already imposed taxes on gas, cigarettes and more and so there is practically no need for a tax even on the beneficial food we eat. I agree with the theory of the fat tax reducing the obesity rate, but living healthy in America is very expensive, many jobs would be lost, companies would go bankrupt and the government should not have the authority to impose taxes Everyone citizens in the name of promoting a healthier life
